I got such a wealth of answers from my last query here, I thought I would try again (thanks to all who responded!). We have some software that was originally developed on IBM PCs, then ported to Unix and VMS, which we want to distribute. I think I can handle the PC/Unix details for doing that, but I'm not sure about VMS. Does anyone have a standard procedure for packaging VMS distribution software on nine-track tape? Presumably you would use BACKUP for the copy operation; do you need to use INTERCHANGE mode if you're going VMS to VMS? Are there other modes we need to know about, or is this the wrong approach entirely? Does the directory information get preserved on the tape, and does that cause problems at the receiving end? If anyone has any sample DCL scripts they use for creating tapes like this, or something similar they could annotate, I would be most grateful if you could send it to me.
