There was once a group called the Canadian DECUS UNIX SIG, which kept a database for UNIX sites in Canada, published a newsletter, and (in Toronto) held occasional meetings. It has been moribund for a couple of years, because I have had no time to do a proper job as chairman, the newsletter editor received no submissions, and no-one seemed to want to take over and do something with it. The same group also (mal)functioned as a UNIX Users Group in Canada outside the DECUS umbrella. The question is what should happen to that group? I think that the database of sites is still a useful concept, but the current one is almost two years out of date. For sites on the net, newsletters are probably pointless, but there are fewer sites on the net than off it. For these sites, a newsletter made from articles on the net (and others?) might be useful. Please could you mail (or post to can.general) any ideas you might have on the future of either or both of the DECUS UNIX SIG and the UNIX Users Group in Canada. Any volunteers to serve as chairman will be welcomed. I think I could probably continue to keep up the database from information sent over the net, but we would particularly need information about non-net sites. Martin Taylor (...utzoo!dciem!mmt)
