[can.general] VLSI Text Generation Tool for CIF

padpowell@wateng.UUCP (PAD Powell[Admin]) (06/18/83)

Soon to be made available in C and (Ugh!) Fortran source, is the handy
little "cifscript" program. This program takes a text string, origin,
size (in CIF units), and orientation, and generates CIF text in
Queen's (VLSIIC) restricted CIF rules. The basic technique is to
generate a set of symbols, one for each letter, at the indicated size
(see the source code for the banner program for a nice font to steal),
then to generate text calling the symbols at the required origin, and in
the correct orientation.
The source for this little wonder will be posted in net.sources in the
very near future. Hopefully the Fortran (hurts to even think about it)
will run on VMS without any changes... Or a VMS version will be made
available.
