		Canadian UNIX Users Group
Recently at the USENIX conference in Toronto I met with
several persons who expressed interest in forming a Canadian
UNIX users group.
Based on the amount of interest we decided to pursue the issue
further and determine if such a users group was of general
interest in Canada.
The purpose of this letter is to indicate to you the goals of
such a group and to solicit interest in its formation.
The initial purposes of the group are:
  - to establish a directory of Canadian UNIX installations and
    representatives
  - to develop a catalogue of UNIX software tools, application
    software and specialized software developments
  - to identify systems and software problems and to exchange
    solutions to those problems
  - to develop standards for programming, systems documentation etc.
  - to provide contacts for new UNIX users
  - to identify software and hardware development projects
which may be of common interest, and
  - to share in software developments
  - to provide a forum for communicating with UNIX user groups
in Canada, USA and other countries
  - other?
If you feel there is sufficient benefit to forming a Canadian
UNIX users group please express your concurrence to me and I
will proceed to draft a charter (with your input) for its
formation.
This communication will be sent to UNIX installations via USENET,
other UNIX users and users of "UNIX-like" systems who are not
on the network will receive the communication by Canada Post.
Thank you for your interest. --- Don Costin.
N.B. UNIX IS A TRADEMARK OF BELL LABORATORIES.
P.S. If you know of UNIX sites not on the network, please pass on a copy
of this letter. We would be interested in their input.
If not too much trouble please forward their mailing address to us.
     Thank you in advance.
