[can.general] NUI on Datapac

derek@sask.UUCP (Derek Andrew) (01/28/84)

Well, I just heard this week that the phone company has released NUI for
Datapac. NUI stands for Network User Identification. Think of it as a
credit card. When you call the public dial port for Datapac, you may
then enter your NUI number and password. All Datapac charges will then
be billed to your NUI number and not to the site you are calling. Remote
hosts will not be forced into accepting collect calls now.

Why is this in can.general you ask, well, there is not enough traffic on
the net to justify the creation of net.datapac yet. Why even bother you
all with these details you say? Well, I am hoping to stimulate some
interest in using Datapac for UUCP links between Canadian sites. ...?
Because it can work out *much* cheaper than using telephone links all
the time.
