[can.general] hardware for sale

Zoology Computer Systems at U of T (utzoo) has several items of hardware
for sale. All are believed fully working, but have been superseded by
better stuff or have been rendered unnecessary. All prices have an
implicit "or best offer" on the end. We're not concerned with making
a profit on this stuff -- we've got our money's worth from most of it --
so much as with getting rid of things that are just taking up space.

2 Ampex 300-meg disk drives $15k?
These have seen a fair bit of use, but have been thoroughly
replaced by some new Fujitsu Eagles. Fully maintained. They
were under maintenance contract by Terabit Computer, which used
to be Ampex's own service department. They have the dual-port
option, although it's never been used. Includes two Dysan
certified-perfect packs and two older Memorex imperfect packs.

Xylogics 650 disk controller $2k?
The controller for the Ampexes. Never been used -- it was a
replacement for a strange and troublesome controller we had
earlier, but we replaced the drives before we got around to
changing controllers. RM02 lookalike. Cables for two drives.
Would work for just about any SMD drives, although it can't
take the fierce data rate of Fujitsu Eagles.

3 DZ11s, one distribution panel $1500 (2DZ+dp), $750 (1DZ)
8-line terminal multiplexors (one Dec, the other two are Plessey
lookalikes) and one 16-line distribution panel. (The extra DZ
would be of use mostly to somebody who already has a single DZ
and a distribution panel.) These are definitely low-end gear,
unsuited to really high baud rates, but they've given us years
of good service. They've been replaced by Emulex CS11s here.

Able Unibus repeater $500
Used to buffer Unibus signals when you have lots of devices on
a single Unibus. Never been used. Several years ago it looked
like our Unibus was going to go on getting bigger; in fact, it's
shrunk instead, as ancient hardware was retired and better new
	hardware replaced multiple older devices.

Given a choice, we prefer to sell within U of T or to an Ontario
university; this is not prejudice, but desire to minimize paperwork
and tax nonsense. Note in particular that if you're not a university,
or if you are but you aren't going to use this stuff for research, you
may end up having to pay more because duty and/or FST may be payable
retroactively.
