I was talking to some guys from GE about the access to GENIE in Canada. Right now they only have lines into Toronto and a couple of other major cities. Otherwise, you have to use telenet or tymnet to get in at an immensely high rate. They said they would like to hook up to datapac, but they were having troubles getting it set up so average users could do XMODEM over that packet network. If you have some experience with datapac and can help them, call Bob Figol at GE, 416-620-2155 and give them some hints. That way we can all get GENIE a little cheaper. -- Brad Templeton, Looking Glass Software Ltd. - Waterloo, Ontario 519/884-7473

I am not a potential GENIE customer so I don't want to get very involved with this. I have done XMODEM transfers from The Source, using XMODEM via Telenet (at least I think I did - I've since switched to KERMIT). I don't believe any special DataPac settings were required (i.e. if special settings were needed they were established by The Source). I've also done XMODEM transfers from CompuServe via Telenet. This was more difficult. Some Datapac parameters did have to be set (probably transparent mode and early packet forwarding). In addition it was necessary to use an XMODEM program that had relaxed timeouts - PC-TALK was the program I used. -- UUCP: {uunet|watmath|utai|garfield}!dalcs!aucs!wdw BITNET: WDW@Acadia Internet: WDW%Acadia.BITNET@WISCVM.WISC.EDU
