I propose to start a mailing list instead, until such time as this group grows too large to be handled that way. I would be interested in starting a discussion on effective means of distribution for this software and so, to start the ball rolling, I will begin by offering the following: If the program is small, it seems that electronic mail is a reasonable distribution mechanism. If the group agrees, I can set up a mail server on geac for this type of request. For larger, but not huge, programs, I can make an anonymous uucp open to members if they wish it. Inbound lines are telebits, so those with faster modems can take advantage of this. Notice, please, that you will have to call us, since Geac is not a charity. For huge programs (The X11 source tape for example), the best means is via 9-track tape at either 1600 or 6250 density. How the tape gets to me is your concern - the tape will be mailed back unless other arrangements are made in advance. I can also make sun cartridge tapes (not compatible with any other cartridge known to mankind). Are these methods reasonable? Are there better approaches than this? -david- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- David Haynes Geac Computers Canada Ltd.
