The Disaster  Research Center  receives a  variety of information
concerning conferences and courses related to disaster studies.

We have received notice that the  Disaster Congress  1988 to take
place at McCormick Place, Chicago on November 9-11, 1988 has been
cancelled.

-First International  conference on  Aviation Accidents:   How to
Prevent, Investigate, and Litigate Aircraft Disasters

October 6-7, 1988

This  conference  will  focus  on the regulatory, operational and
technological  measures  that  best  increase  air  safety.   The
importance  of  thorough  accident  investigation  will  also  be
discussed.  In addition, one session  will provide  an outline of
the  systems  necessary  to  respond  to  the aftermath of such a
disaster.

Management

Topics  of  breakout  groups  at this conference will include EMS
information needs,  EMS  information  sources  and dissemination,
information  resource   management  models,  medical  information
management  activities,   development   of   EMS-IRM  consortium,

functions,  EMS  information  uses  and  values,  EMS information

-The  2nd  International  Conference  on  the  Medical  Basis for
Radiation Accident Preparedness

Since  REAC/TS  presented  the  first international conference in
1979,  several  serious   accidents   occurred,   indicating  the
continuing need for medical preparedness.  During the conference,
serious accident history and related follow-up, new approaches to
diagnosis and  therapy; and response planning will be reviewed in
the context  of recent  accidents, including  those in Chernobyl,
USSR and Goiania, Brazil.
