[can.general] french-->English Translating

umhudso7@ccu.umanitoba.ca (10/03/89)

I'm REALLY starting to get, well, pissed off at some of these french
postings. I mean, they're excluding a portion of the audience from
reading their viewpoint, and that way you can't get a full story
from _both_ sides. True, they do have a right <grumble> <gripe> to
post, and basically do anything, in french, but many of us AREN'T
french! There are many people who can't or WON'T read french out here!
(I'm in the latter - suffered thru High School french because I need
it for the Forces - but I *hate* it, and I hate those who post french
*even though* they know English, but I guess that's just personal
preference) What I really want to know is this: is there ANYONE out
there who would/could take these french postings and make them into
some understandable English? I CAN read french, but I have to sit here and
think about exactly what I'm reading, and I can't do that because I've
got ALOT of mail, etc to read (read - I don't want to waste time
trying to translate). I know there's people out there in the same
boat, and I know we'd appreciate it, even though their ideas STILL
wouldn't make sense! :-)

This whole issue is getting out of hand. If you can't read French, I
can understand your point. But there's no need to go around bashing
the French simply because you have insufficient practice or exposure
to understand the language.

And if you WON'T read French even though you CAN, then you are simply
being a bigot. Respect people's rights to post in an official
language, okay? Don't HATE them because of that. Geez, I'd post only
in French just to p*** off people like you.

I CAN read french, but I have to sit here and
think about exactly what I'm reading, and I can't do that because I've
got ALOT of mail, etc to read (read - I don't want to waste time

Whine away. My heart bleeds for the precious time you're wasting.
Maybe instead of read news you ought to educate yourself and expand
your rather narrow horizons -- learn another language, see things from
a different perspective okay?

I'm almost convinced this was posted as a joke, and am willing to give the
poster the benefit of the doubt. For those of you who think the sentiment is
legitimate, please read the following:
