I remember reading somewhere that Jerry said that it was the law that killed Janis Joplin. After her death Weir became a one man campaign against narrcotics according to another article, and I remember a radio spot with Weir saying, "Hi! I'm Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead..", introducing his message that he's seen too many stars bite the dust due to drugs. That was around 1972. Several years later it was reported that Jerry had tried heroin. This would be in accordance with the rumor of a row between Jerry and other band members. Also, having to travel to court between concerts has to be tiring for Jerry and one would expect him to have less energy for concerts. About Mickey and fitness, I read (ages ago, in "the DEAD BOOK", I think) that Mickey used to have Billy go through lotsa exercizes until he was always drumming in his mind. And then he went to Africa to play with the tribesmen. As for Jerry wanting to relive the Sixties, or whatever similar attitude: some interviews along with "The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test" by Tom Wolfe sugg est (understatement!) that Jerry was really into the scene. The Dead played at those test parties before they changed their name from the"Warlocks." This was long before Mickey joined them, but that is trivial. This article isn't meant to give a conclusion, but only to give some more info for the discussion. "one man gathers what another man spills" --"St. Stephen" the cosmic Ray
