I have an Onyx C8002 System tht I am considering selling to get another machine. I want to see, very quickly if possible, if somebody is interested in it. I will also consider selling the parts if offers are high enough. Included is a 256K memory board we built ourselves using an intel memory board and some decoding chips. Knowing how much these boards cost, there might be interest in this alone. The system runs Unix System III, and is still one of the highest performance systems around. With 512K it's quite comfortable with 3 or more developers. This one has 512K ram, 9 serial ports, printer port & cable, rs422 port and a 20 meg voice-coil disk drive (30 ms seek time). There's a cartridge tape backup system - really valuable. The processor is a Z8002. The whole system is much like a pdp 11/45, and similar in performance. Anything you can do with one of those, you can do with this. The unix has vi, csh, various other ucb utilities, and I have put up rn, readnews, kermit and others. Also included free is a complete 6502 cross-assembler developent system with macros, linking loader and download system to a Commodore 64. We sell this system (with source) for $1000, but I will include it free as an enticement to a good offer. The system just had a small power supply problem, but it's fixed and the whole system has just been burned in and retested at the place they manufacture the disks. It has another problem in that the reset button on the back doesn't work reliably, but Onyx Inc. says that is a known bug in their hardware. Anyway, offers for the whole thing should start at at least $4000 CDN (under $3000 U.S.) You can get the memory board for about $1000 CDN (Onyx charges $3000) on its own if there is an offer for the system with only 256K (which means it only supports 1.5 users doing development) I will trade for an IBM PC/AT if you can find one for me cheap! I want to know real soon. Can you call me by Tuesday? You can even try me at home (519) 746-4910 if you must. -- Brad Templeton, Looking Glass Software, Waterloo, Ont. (519) 884-7473
