The TURING group at the University of Toronto has produced an
interpreter for the TURING Programming Language and is now looking
for 30 qualified people to review the complete software package
that runs under MS-DOS on IBM PC's and compatibles. The package
includes a single floppy disk and a tutorial guide to the TURING
Programming Language ("A Guide to the PC-TURING Interpreter" by
J.N.P. Hume).
We are looking for people with an IBM-PC or compatible running
MS-DOS 2.1 or later with at least 512K RAM (640K preferred). If
you are interested, please reply with electronic mail giving:
- Address where the interpreter package can be mailed
- Brand of PC and how it is configured (list any special
boards, memory, version of DOS, number of floppy and/or
hard drives, etc.)
- Credentials (why you're qualified to review software)
We'll choose 30 names and send those people free copies of the
interpreter and the book by J.N.P. Hume. We'll send demonstration
diskettes to most of the other respondees (until we run out.)
BACKGROUND: The TURING Programming Language is being used in
computing courses at York University and University of Toronto.
TURING is not a Pascal although it has the features of Pascal plus
modules, dynamic arrays, varying length strings, etc. with a no
frills syntax (no semicolons, no program header, etc) and with an
airtight formal definition (program execution is determined by the
TURING language specification). TURING has been used at the UofT
for 3 years.
