[net.lang.forth] looking for *the* book on Forth

janney@unm-cvax.UUCP (07/03/84)

I'm interested in learning about Forth (I currently know nothing about
it) and I am looking for a good book to learn it from. What I would
like to find is a book that is to Forth as Kernighan & Ritchie is to C,
or as Jensen & Wirth is to Pascal: something compact and definitive.
Anything over 200 pages is probably too long. I don't care if it
doesn't have lots of cartoons or if it doesn't tell me how to use the
editor on a Sinclair ZX80; in fact, I rather hope it doesn't. I do
want a complete and accurate description of the language, written by
someone who understands it thoroughly.

Does such a book exist, or a reasonable approximation to it? Please respond
by mail: if there is enough interest I will summarize to the net.

Thanks in advance
