[net.lang.forth] Forth for UN*X 5.0?

era@ih1ap.UUCP (tim born) (07/20/84)

I'm trying to locate a version of forth that runs on UN*X 5.0.
I saw the sources posted for forth for BSD4.1, but they don't compile
for me. It blows up at the include of syscall.h in forth1.S.
Does UN*X 5.0 have a syscall.h? If not, how do I get around this problem?
I'm not much of a VAX assembly hacker, so I'm having a hard time at this.

I thought forth was a small language. Why is it a micro can implement
forth in 8Kb, and the VAX requires 350Kb of source for the same language?

What is to prevent a forth interpreter being written in C? Seems like this
approach would be more portable. (Maybe I'm just biased towards higher level
languages.)

Any leads to a forth for UN*X 5.0, or a VAX assembly hacker much appreciated.

Thanks,
