[net.lang.forth] FORTH machine

< Is the blank line eater still around? >

Some time last year, I heard about a machine which execiutes FORTH
directly, or very nearly directly. For some reason, the name Novix, or some such,
is associated with it in my mind.

Does this beast exist? If so, how do we get a hold of documentation?

[ summary: Does the Novix chip exist? ]

Novix is still around and chips/boards are somewhat available. I understand
that Charles Moore is selling a *very* basic board (unpopulated board, you
get the needed RAM's etc.) with a Novix Forth chip for about $420.

Novix has a beta board available which, as I recall, includes a very good Forth
compiler, about 64K of 35 nsec RAM, 2 USARTs, piggy-back connections, streaming
tape interface, hard disk interface, floppy disk interface for about $3500.

Addresses for more information:

Charles Moore
		Computer Cowboys
		410 Star Hill Rd.
		Woodside, CA
			94062

Novix
		Novix
		19925 Stevens Creek Blvd.
		Suite 280
		Cupertino, CA
			95014

		Phone for Novix is +1 408 255 2750

I would suspect that for about $4500 you could put together an interesting
system using the Novix beta board.
