[net.rec] Fair price for a used canoe?

djb@cbosgd.UUCP (David J. Bryant) (01/31/84)

A friend of mine is interested in buying a 15' used Grumman aluminum
canoe from someone she knows, but has no idea what a fair price is.
According to her, the canoe is in very good condition (although I don't
know how old it is).

If anyone can guestimate a reasonable price range (heck, I don't even know
how much the canoe cost when new) I'd appreciate it. And my friend
would appreciate it too.

I've been in this situation several times with various items. One technique
which has worked fine for me is to find some places around which sell the
item in question and ask for its price. Most or all places will quote a price
over the phone. If your friend can find a place(s) which sell both used
and new canoes, she's in business. They should give her a good idea how
much a used canoe cost with respect to its cost new.
