[net.rec] Square dance??

rbnsn@pyuxn.UUCP (K Robinson) (05/03/84)

<>
I originally posted this to net.general, and it was suggested that I
try posting here to net.rec, so here goes.

Is there any interest on the net for starting a newsgroup pertaining
to square dancing? This group could be used for posting of weekends,
special dances, questions on dance locations for travelers, discussions
about topics such as levels, computer squares, or drop outs.

To start the ball rolling, I'll put in an inquiry:

I'll be in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 6 and I'm wondering if there is
an advanced or challenge (up to C2) dance in the area for that night.

					Thanks in advance

There are two different kinds of square dance groups--traditional and western.
Which kind are you talking about?

I would rather see a discussion of all forms of participative dancing.

I very much enjoy Western square dancing, but am more interested
in "ball room" dancing. (ie. swing, waltz, cha-cha, foxtrot, etc)
It would be great if there was some way to combine all the interests.

For casual, occasional-weekend dancing (either folk, square, ballr)
does anyone have a suggestion? I've been looking in the NJ (Murry
Hill or Holmdel) area.

thanks

Lynda -

Many western SD clubs do what is called round dancing between tips.
Round dances are choreographed dances using ball room steps; they
include two-steps, waltzes, foxtrots, polkas, tangos, etc.
They can be either memorized or cued by the caller. Lots of fun.
Try Rutgers Promenaders, 2 & 4 thur when school is in session.
RD lessons go on all around avery year. Get a copy of "Grand
Square", the mag put out by the NNJSDA. (Norther NJ SD Assoc.)

happy dancing

Anybody venture to discuss what they think the best roller coaster
around it? Some friends and I are planning some one day private
plane trips and we think that checking out roller coasters would
be a worthwhile diversion. We will be visiting those in a couple
of hours flying time from Maryland, but don't restrict your comments
to any one area of the country.

Rebel Yell, Kings Dominion, just north of Richmond, VA. This was
supposed to be the highest/fastest when it was built. However, it
does seem to be a little blase. It's a twin, out turn around and back
roller coaster. Kings Dominion has another new coaster called the
Grizzley but I haven't ridden it yet.

The Great American Scream Machine: Six Flags Over Georgia.
I thought this was pretty good. It's been a while since I've
ridden on it.

Six Flags over New Jersey (actually they don't call it that, it's
Six Flags Great Adventure), Jackson, NJ. All they had when I was there
was a very short looping ride.
