<<<<< sacrifice to line deamons ??>>>>

I will be visiting Florida soon and would like opinions concerning
EPCOT Center for children ages 9 & 7. Is it worthwhile or boring.
My son age 9 is into computers rather heavily.
Daughter has traditional little-girl likes. (No sexism intended)
Please respond directly using path below. Personal experience with
children of similar age preferred, but all comments welcome.
Please respond prior to June 13. Thank you.

I worked for Disney for a number of years and if there is one thing they do
right (some people might argue this point nowadays) it is keeping kids
involved. I have not been to EPCOT (note: YET! *sigh*) but I have heard
lots of good things about it. I doubt you will have problems keeping them
interested (there are times, though, when Disney seems to forget the
non-kids. That is my biggest complaint about them).

I'm sure I have my death ray in here somewhere...

I was at EPCOT twice within two months of its opening.
Conclusion: It ISN'T the Magic Kingdom.

Since you've put me in mind of it, I should think to post "Bickford's
hemisemiofficial review of EPCOT [Supersedes "Bickford's
hemidemisemiofficial review of EPCOT"]"

FutureWorld: displays to bridge the communications gap between the techs
and the rest. Fairly good - many of the exhibits are hands-on. Notice -
if you should play Bit-By-Bit in the Bell (uh, AT&T) section, be warned
that in October 82 the score was stored in 8 bits. I was more than a
little indignant when my score went from 255 to 0.
There are opportunities to "play," but I think those with a creative
bent would enjoy it more.

YE PUBLICK NOTICE (in case I don't post the full review): Don't waste your
time on either "Kitchen Kabaret" or Eastern's "Astuter Computer Review."

WorldShowcase: more in the way of entertainment - if Barnaby's side show
is still there, see it! Whether the kids enjoy depends on whether they'd
enjoy a sightseeing trip; kids can get bored fast.

NOTICE 2: Take two days, preferably not on a weekend. Spend one day to
see, another day to take pictures, once you know where you'd like to
take them. You can borrow a disc camera there, but it suffers several
defects: no time exposure, no telephoto (shooting across the lake is
probably the best way for a building photo), and a flash whether you
want it or not.

I would recommend EPCOT for everyone. There are two sections: one the
Futureworld, the other an International expo. In the international
section, there is entertainment, shops, restaurants, bars, etc. The
futureworld is like a participatory technical museum (a step beyond
D.C.'s Smithsonian or Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry) with
automatic rides and visuals instead of button-activated ones.

My family just returned from Florida where we visited Magic Kingdom and
Epcot center. My boys (ages 8, 10, 12) liked Epcot more than Magic Kingdom.
This is not saying that Magic Kingdom is a bomb, it is quite good.
At Magic Kingdom, things were a little uncomfortable due to the HOT weather.
At Epcot, after standing in the lines we found that most of the attractions
in Future World were 'ride thru', that is you didn't have to stand to enjoy it
and the insides were air conditioned.

In summary, Epcot had something for everyone.
