[net.rec] SCA groups

dragon@lll-crg.ARPA (Monica Cellio) (10/26/84)

I am from the Barony Marche of the Debatable Lands (East Kingdom), which would
appear to be one of the less bureaucratic groups. Part of it is undoubtedly
due to the fact that we have no royalty, no knights, and very few (maybe one
or two; I'm not sure) Peers. The seneschal seems to have the interests of
the group in mind, rather than her own advancement. (No, I'm not incredibly
naive about the group, nor am I new to it.)

Sure, the group has its problems. However, as a newcomer three years ago
I was welcomed (even though I'm one of "those computer people"). I didn't
have a persona right away, but that was ok. People were willing to help me
develop one or "bug off" had I asked them to let me work it out myself. They
were willing to lend me garb and other necessities (and gave me lots of help
at my first Pennsic, which was also my first camping trip since age 10 or so).
I was never told that I wasn't "acting properly".

Maybe I just got lucky, but I've met a lot of SCAdians since then and the
overwhelming majority of them were reasonable people.
