[net.rec] any gunslingers?

chris@politik.UUCP (Christopher Seiwald) (11/21/84)

Any gunslingers out there? In particular, I am interested if anyone
has an opinion on the HK VP70Z. (I can get one cheap). I know 9mm is
a wheeze, but that seems to be the way the world is going.

Advice appreciated.

Verry interesting and also illegal ! You now have a short barrelled carbine
which is not something you should be telling a lot of people about. I've
recently seen a shoulder stock that is not "attached" to the gun and therefore
is not considered a carbine(its moulded so that the hand grip rest firmly in
the stock).

Agreed especially if you have small or medium sized hands.

If you use the newish "sivertip" JHP ammo the 9mm is pretty much on a par
one-on-one with the .45.

Browning BDA etc etc however one thing that the VP70Z has over all these
mention is a capacity of 18 rounds in each clip. This I suspect is one of
the major reasons that people initially look at the VP70Z. Hell with two
spare clips in your belt you've got your own small army.

Theoretically only police can buy Glaser Safety Slugs(thats why they are so
hard to find), not I'm not sure but I would imagine that if only the police can
buy them then only the police would be allowed to possess them. Need I go on ?
As I mentioned earlier lots of good(really good) things are being said about
"silvertip" ammo for the 9mm(expansion to .55,approx 90-95 % weight retention).
Also if you hand load you could use shotshell in the larger sizes 2->00 to give
you better stopping power (not like the Glaser however).

I didn't notice any smiley face in your article, which is a shame because of
some of the quasi-legal stuff that you mention.

Oooooooops that should have been JSP not JHP in regards to the "silvertip"
bullets.

I did say "american version" implying that you can't purchase (legally) the
VP70Z the way the Deutcshlanders designed it to be operated as the "european
version" which I also mentioned. Why should I NOT tell people what their
european counterparts DO GET to shoot? This IS an international net, no?

The point I'm making is that this is a truly fine weapon in europe, and highly
recommended IFF you can get it the way it was designed. I wouldn't recommend
owning it at all in america, with or without the (here illegal) stock. The
VP70Z was designed to be a short barreled 3-shot auto carbine which can also
double as a handgun. You don't drive a Ferrari on Sears tires, and you don't
want a VP70Z as a handgun in the US. Its prime function is 3-shot auto.

Ah, but you've made the typical misunderstanding. Handguns are ONLY
defensive weapons. There is never an assault situation (implied by
"small army") where you WANT to be using a handgun, if there is an alternative.

Do I really need a :-) after mentioning a nuke HAND-grenade? Do YOU know
anyone who can lob a grenade far enough to not be vaporized? Do you know
of any A-bombs small enough to lob?

what I was hoping to find with my request re: Glasser Safety Slugs or any
ammo nearly as good, was a reference to the name and address of a company I've
forgotten which used to run an ad campaign about their ammo which prominently
featured the word *SPLAT* in reference to their 9mm ammo. Someone?
It puts WW Silvertips to shame, but doesn't equal a Glasser round.
