[fa.info-vlsi] PC board CAD systems

I am looking for a CAD system to design PC boards. My current top
contended is a package called P-Cad running on an IBM PC/AT. Does
anyone have experiences, positive or negative, with this system that
they can pass along? Or, perhaps, any other suggestions for something
better that is also in the $20k hardware and software range?

          Thanks,
          Paul

I don't have any experience running any CAD system, but I hear that
Santa Clara Systems has a CAD system that runs on the IBM PC.

We at John Fluke Mfg. selected FutureNet over PCAD because in the
opinion of our software folks, it was a must more robust program.

You might also look at the Daisy Personal Logician. Daisy makes large CAE
workstations. The Personal Logician is an IBM PC based version of their large
workstations. The Personal Logician costs about $17,000.00 including an IBM
PC. I haven't seen the Personal Logician yet, but I've seen the big
workstations Daisy makes.

I've also used the Dash 1 schematic capture package from Futurenet. I think
P-CAD would be a better choice than the Dash 1. The Dash 1 was rather painful
to use, and the P-CAD system looked much better. I've only seen the P-CAD
system demonstrated though. I haven't actually used it yet.

We have been very satisfied with our Futurenet systems. We got
a chance to try the new DASH-2 which is even better. The STRIDES
add-on is a nice tool for hierarchical design. Our systems are
on 256k XTs.
