[fa.info-vlsi] Inexpensive VLSI

root@cadic.UUCP (CADIC INC) (05/29/85)

   There have been several inquiries on the net (over the past year) about
whether or not a reasonably priced digital functional tester exists.

   The answer is yes:

CADIC INC. introduced the first such digital functional tester, at PC prices,
at the Automatic Test Equipment Exhibit (held at the San Mateo Fairgrounds,
Caifornia) in April.

The tester is run by any IBM compatible computer and it:

* Handles 64 to 128 bi-directional, tri-state TTL compatible ( 0 - 5v ) pins
  (All 128 pins are FULLY programmable. Any pin can be designated as an INPUT,
   as an OUTPUT, or as a BI-DIRECTIONAL pin.)

* Tests any STATIC part

* Tests an UNLIMITED set of test vectors ( the only limit is set by the size
  of the test vector file YOU supply )

* Is MENU Driven ( no programs to write, only test vector files are required )

* Checks all the stimulus lines DURING THE TEST, to verify that the IC ( or
  printed circuit board ) was stimulated correctly.

* Has ALL pins current limited, so a mistake doesn't vaporize your part.

* Has 4 methods to enter test data files:

    1. Edit a file (Brute force)

    2. Enter a 'timing diagram' spec. and use CADIC supplied software
       to generate test vector file.

    3. Use HILO2 simulation files directly, to test part's functionality
       against simulation

    4. Use 'timing diagram' ..graphics type input program, which generates
       test vector file as an option.

* Has ALL PINS programmable and ALL PINS can be assigned to any column
  in the test vector file.
