[net.lang.prolog] Getting started

robert@arizona.UUCP (10/24/83)

   A graduate student here from the Geological Engineering Department
approached me for some information on Prolog. His interests lie in
its use in Expert systems, expecially on smaller machines (they
have an IBM XT, I believe).

   A good book would be the best way to get started. He currently
has Clocksin and Mellish's Programming in Prolog on order with
some bookstore, but do you have any other recommendations, or any
opinion on this book. Also, are there any journals which deal
with Prolog.  Books not specific to Prolog would also be useful;
some suggestions on finding some material on logic programming, AI,
and Expert systems?

   And lastly, there is Micro-PROLOG available for Z-80 based systems.
But does anyone know how this stacks up to what is currently in use on
main frames, and where we might find out what else is available?

Thank you,
