[net.rec.bridge] 7NT

honey (11/29/82)

i can't resist bragging about this one: playing "party bridge" with my wife
and her parents last night, i opened my hand and counted 16 HCP. no real
surprise there, until my partner opened 2NT! i responded 7NT and peeked
at the opponents cards -- they hadn't a single point between them! what
a thrill!

Why brag about making 7NT when you have 40 points? Any beginner could do
that. The hands to brag about are when you make 4 spades with only 21 points
by cross-ruffing, or something like that.

As an aside, are there any other Precision players out there? We here
at hao have adopted this system and I like it much better than Standard
American. In fact, the accuracy of Precision is addicting. When I play
Standard now I feel like I no longer really know what I am doing, every bid
is a guess.

Peter:
Why are you bragging about getting all the points on your side?
Did you cut the cards?

I recently played in a 7NT redoubled (and made).
My partner had AKQxxxxx of Spades (thats 8 all together) and
an outside AK. He went through blackwood, found I had two aces
and a king, and bid 7NT. One of the oppents holding about 10
points doubled and he redoubled. I had a spade, so after one
round he claimed.
