Any Big Clubbers out there?
My partner and I play a variant of W-S Precision.
Spelled out in Sontag's book, "Power Precision".
Has anybody else considered this system. I have
pages of notes and modifications, and would be
interested in corresponding with interested parties.
Salient features:
@ It's a big club system. Any non-negative
response is unconditionally game forcing.
(Ergo "Power" Precision)
@ Uses a 15-17 point NoTrump. This is nice,
but puts quite a burden on auctions beginning
with 1 Diamond. The rest of the Notrump structure
12-14 1 Diamond, etc.
15-17 1 No Trump, etc.
18-19 1C-1D-1NT
20-21 1C-1D-1H-1S-1NT (1 Spade is a relay)
22-23 1C-1D-2NT
24-25 2NT
26+ 1C-1D-1H-1S-2NT
@ Many, many, many asking bids. Auctions
beginning 1C-2 any minor can be tricky
until you figure out the relays.
@ Three-way 2 Diamond bid:
1) Weak 2 in hearts
2) Any 16-24 pt. 4441 hand
3) Big controlless hand 26-27HCP
We have been using this with mixed success for about 6 months.
I suspect it is too early to evaluate, since we still have the
occasional bidding disaster, but I am convinced that substantial
advantages can be gained by using this, and similar artificial
systems. I am, in particular curious how people deal with
competitive low-level auctions, especially beginning with the
precision 1 Diamond, which is where we seem to be hurting the
most.
