We started playing Upside-Down signals and discards about a year ago...and we find them to be vastly superior to standard discarding simply because you don't waste valuable (sometimes) tens, nines, and eights. If playing in a sanctioned tournament, you must either announce that you are or put a little sign on the table. The principle is simple: you discard and signal attitude exactly opposite to standard. That is, from an even number of cards, you signal low-up. Holding K762, play the 2 (which tells partner you have an even number of cards in that suit and that you have an honor...want the suit continued...the lower the card, the more you want the suit led). Holding 876, discard the 7, then the 6. This applies to discarding to partner's opening leads and all subsequent discards... Comments?
