I have also tried the bridge game on PLATO at UIUC and it stinks. It would appear to me to be a major undertaking to get the kind of system which would put up a creditable performance. Bridge is an *extremely* difficult game to teach to a human, let alone a
computer! The problem is, there are times when you must go "against the odds"
because it is the only way to make a contract. Also, I bid much better
with my regular partner than I do even with other superior players,
because I know his methods, quirks, and even unconscious intonations
so well. I realize this type of information is illegal, but I'm sure
everybody uses it, and this is something impossible to program.

P.S. Does anyone know of any *good* programs for scoring duplicate bridge?
Preferably in C or BASIC.
