Here is the problem presented again. North S:AJ65 H:KT2 D: C:AKQJ65 West East S: S:KQT987 H:J987654 H: D:987654 D:KQ2 C: C:T987 South S:432 H:AQ3 D:AJT3 C:432 South is in 6NT. State the leads by West which allow South to make the contract. There are at least seven such leads yet less than thirteen. Also show South's various lines of play depending on the lead. The solution presented stated (1) A diamond lead will allow South to set up his twelfth trick in that suit. That is correct. (2) A heart lead must be won by South and a diamond trick given to East. Now hope East returns a diamond or club which results in him being finessed or squeezed respectively. A high spade return will set the contract. This analysis is also technically correct but can be improved upon. There are lines of play by South which will guarantee the contract depending on the lead. The intent of the problem is since South can see all the hands, so can East and West. And just as South will make plays based on this information, so will East and West(except opening lead). You must assume they will always make the best possible play. Hence you cannot allow them an opportunity to set you because they will. So any analysis on heart leads must not depend on the opponents making errors. P.S: Your English is very good.
