[net.rec.bridge] high score problem

halle1@houxz.UUCP (J.HALLE) (04/19/84)

What is the highest score one side can obtain in a single rubber
with no one ever being set? (Not as easy as it looks.)

This sounds like a very tricky problem. I doubt this solution is
correct but it is a good start. Its the obvious line of piling
up dbl/rdbl overtricks except when the slam bonus counts for more.

Game 1: tricks overs insult honors slam game
1C dbl-- 40 600 50 150
1C dbl-- 40 600 50 150
7N rdbl- 880 50 150 1000
Game 2:
1C dbl-- 40 1200 50 150
1C dbl-- 40 1200 50 150
1N rdbl- 160 2400 50 150 700
Totals:
          960 1200 150 450 1000
          240 4800 150 450 700

         1200 + 6000 + 300 + 900 + 1000 + 700 = 10100! pts for one rubber
                                                       with no set contracts.
