Oswald Jacoby, one of the greatest bridge players of all times, died yesterday at age 81. He was the second Life Master, and was one of the original Four Aces in the thirties. He played with Sydney Lenz in the famous Culbertson match, and was acknowledged by all the observers, and by Eli C., as the best player, by far, at the table. He is perhaps best known for his Jacoby Transfers, but has always been a top technician and theoretician. His accomplishments are far too numerous to list here, but probably his most popular victory was his recent win in the Reisinger BAM teams at the last Fall Nationals. In memory of him, I will post in the next couple of days a famous hand which showed his amazing psychological prowess at the table.
