E)comments from the "expert panel" C)comments from the "contestants" R)comments form yours truly, me. ********************************** Hand 4) S:AKQ95432 N E S W | VUL:ALL | MP H: - - 1S P D:KJ7 2H P ? C:86 5 bid 3S:10 pts 10 bid 4S:9 pts 1 bid 3C:8 pts 1 bid 3D:8 pts *************** E)4S-Leave the rest to partner E)4S-Partner should realize I have no interest in heart cards. R)my partners generally don't realize things like that. They'll think I want to play 4S. C)4S-Partner's ten points should be enough to make the contract unless I'm an eternal pessimist. C)4S-No controls, no hearts. Don't tell partner you have extra values. C)4S-Show solid spades and not much else. R)this sounds like too much of a shut out bid to me. Also its probably weaker than your actual hand. E)3S-Tell partner my spades are good and don't encourage the rest of the way. E)3S-Describes your hand perfectly and leaves room to explore. C)3S-Since partner has promised to make another bid with his/her 2 over 1, a jump in spades shows a solid suit. R)to me this seems the best way to play it. I dont see another use for this call other than for the type of hand in question(Good spades, somewhat extras). Other calls seem to be inadequate. C)3D-Early slam try. E)3C-Discourage club lead. A good score frequently depends on the luck of the lead. R)this makes sense and leaves room for everything else. Partner may however get gray hairs trying to figure out whats going on as the auction proceeds. ***************************************************************************** Well, it appears that some people are worried about making game while others are looking for slam. Some people like their hand, others don't. Strange that we are all looking at the same hand. Anyway, it comes down to what you play your 3S and 4S calls in this auction. I think bidding 4S weak is more of an exaggeration than 3S showing extra(if it does at all) values. In either case your suit is good enough.
