E)3D-the underbid is the lesser of all evils. E)3D-I am making a free bid so partner will be able to play me for some values. I wouldn't make this call on an 8 count. C)3D-impossible situation. Maybe someone will take another call. C)3D-not good enough for negative double. 4D takes up too much room. R)Partner holds KQxx-Qxx-Qxxx-Ax. 3D will be the final contract. A below par result. 3D is obviously an underbid. Safe, I agree. A matter of style though. I'm an agressive bidder and usually good things come from it. Events are not won by average scores. E)dbl-pray partner takes a 3NT call. E)dbl-try 4D if partner bids a major. E)dbl-hope things work out in a 4-3 fit. C)dbl-raise 3D to 4, 3S to 4, 3H to 4D, pass 3NT. R)With a preempt interfering, I always strain to bid NT if I can to protect partner in a difficult situation. So the dbl would work with me as a partner E+C)4D-only bid that describes your hand. E)4D-the ultimate matchpoint sin. Bypassing 3NT. C)4D-partner's stoppers can't be good enough for NT. C)4D-a terrible matchpoint contract. No way to win. R)First, don't bid parnter's hand for him. Second, its hard to see a 4D call getting anything more than average and most likely less. I refuse to make a call with a defeatist attitude. C)3S-show your values. R)Are your values going to save you in a 4S 3-3 fit? C)4C-game force in diamonds with slam interest. R)Definitely an overbid. C)pass-All other bids are more wrong. This is the least wrong. Partner will make every effort to keep the bidding open. R)And what will you do to recover when partner reopens the bidding? You are in no better position, probably worse.
