The International Team Trials for the right to represent the United States

	Hugh Ross, Oakland CA
	Peter Pender, Forestville CA
	*Robert Hamman, Dallas TX
	*Bobby Wolff, Dallas TX

*Players augmented to team to meet requirement of six players.

By virtue of their double win, GRAND NATIONAL/VANDERBILT was seeded into
the 128-board final match. SPINGOLD and REISINGER played a 128-board
semifinal beginning on Thursday. REISINGER jumped off to an 11-IMP lead
in the first 16-board segment, but SPINGOLD gained a 2-IMP advantage
after the second segment, and either maintained or increased their
lead in each segment thereafter, leading by 18, 18, 27, 62, and 94 IMPs
at the end of the subsequent segments, on their way to a 298-167 final score.

In the finals, GRAND NATIONAL/VANDERBILT broke rapidly, winning the
first segment by 26 and extending their lead to 56 after 32 boards and
90 IMPs after 48. SPINGOLD then began a powerful rally -- over one
portion of the next 48 boards, they outscored GRAND NATIONAL/VANDERBILT
by 186-36! The GRAND NATIONAL/VANDERBILT lead shrank to 54 IMPs at the
halfway point, and 14 after 80 boards; SPINGOLD had the lead by 44 going
into the final 32-board session. But GRAND NATIONAL/VANDERBILT managed to
turn the tide to close to within 21 with 16 boards to play. In the
last segment, GRAND NATIONAL/VANDERBILT picked up another 26 IMPs to win
the high-scoring match, 339-334.

I expect to be getting some hands from the local principals (Martel,
Stansby, Ross, Pender, Lawrence) over the next few days, and will
put them on the net.
