[net.taxes] do your own tax info

miorelli (12/16/82)

This is strictly off the record:

Here in Hartford, CT the H&R Block offices keep a copy of
J.K. Lasser's book on preparing your income tax (exact title
escapes me). DO NOT buy the H&R Block book -- it contains only
enough info to confuse you into coming into one of our offices.
Lasser's book is well written, in plain English, and takes
into account all the more normal oddball conditions. It is
available in any bookstore for $5 or $6. Highly recommended
for those who do their own taxes. Also VERY good is the
IRS Publication 17 (Pub 17). It's free from the IRS and
also very well written. The last chapter contains a filled-in
tax return and an expalanation (in English) as to why it was
done that way. This is a line-by-line explanation.
