The following is a short summary of net inputs to my earlier question regarding the procedure for written rulings from the IRS. First, The written ruling may take a long time before the IRS will respond. I was told two years or thereabouts!! Second, the ruling is not binding even though it is on paper. Perhaps because your request may not contain all of the "pertinent" information, or something to that effect. Needless to say, I am still investigating this matter, and will share my findings. However, given the above, it seems that the best way may be to "go for it" and await the letter inviting you to an audit??!! Steve Wheatley inuxc!wheatley
