If you worked for two or more NJ employers in a calendar year, you probably had too much NJ Unemployment/Disability tax collected. Each employer collected $41 for Unemployment tax from you and may have also collected $41 Disability tax. Your maximum contribution per year should be $41 of each. (The amounts were smaller in 1980 and 1981: $34.50 and $37.50 respectively). To get the tax back, call the Labor and Industry people in Trenton at 609 292-2338 and tell them your story. They will send you forms to be filled out by all of your employers and then to be returned to them.
