[net.taxes] Tax protesters indicted

mjl (04/16/83)

Protesting the payment of taxes on constitutional grounds has a long history.
One of the things that grates on me most is that the IRS blithely ignores the
guarantee that one is assumed innocent until proven guilty. Of course, with
respect to tax deductions, you are guilty until proven innocent. This
practice has been declared constitutional by the Supreme Court in what must be
an incredible convolution of logic. Of course, the Court has a vested
interest. So much for protections of our freedoms; a government of laws, not
men; and other idealistic foofra.

Further discussion should probably go on in net.politics -- see you there.
