Peter Zenger was clearly guilty of violating the the laws against libel which prohibiting saying bad (whether or not they were true) things about the government. The jury decided to acquit him anyway because they didn't like the law. I guess the jury wanted to be in the history books as the Zenger Jury of the 20th century. If the jury in a criminal case refuses to pay attention to the charge and acquit the man anyway, there is nothing that can be done (except take civil action as pointed out in one letter.)
