Now that it is that time of year again, I have a question. Are you allowed to deduct for taxes that you pay for gas? In general, are you allowed to deduct all other types of taxes from your income? -- Brad Brahms usenet: {decvax,ucbvax}!trw-unix!trwspp!brahms arpa: Brahms@USC-ECLC

Nope, and you weren't allowed to do last year either for the Feds! They removed the Gas Tax tables (by state) from the 1040 form book. All other taxes are not deductable, such as inheritence tax, but most are. These things are evaluated by computer first to see how your deductions in each of the major categories (taxes, interets, medical, charity, business loss, etc.) fit into the census profile you fit into (marital status, age, gross income, occupation, opinion on wombats, etc.). If your deductions in each of these categories is within the "normal" range for your census group, you can get away with anything! Just don't be a pig about it so the silicon snoop doesn't find you. No you cannot deduct for gas tax. All other taxes are deductable but NO on gas

Sorry gang, but some gas taxes ARE deductible. If you use the gas in a boat, airplane, or certain farm equipment, the taxes paid may be deducted. At least that is what it has been. Get a tax book and it will outline how to do this. There are ways to deduct quite a few things that seem to be non-deductible. And they are all legal. You can even deduct the cost of the book.
