[net.taxes] Joint accounts

brett@ucla-cs.UUCP (08/06/85)

According to Money magazine:

"You may be the most conscientious taxpayer in the country,
but if you share a bank account with someone who owes the IRS,
watch out. The Supreme Court recently ruled that the IRS
can seize the assets in a joint bank account even if only
one of the depositors hasn't paid his taxes. The
ruling doesnt change anything for married couples
who file jointly; their accounts have always been
fair game. But you may want to reconsider accounts
with roomates or in-laws."
