replies. I'll summarize if enough people e-mail requests for
me to do so.

Does anyone have any experience with, know anything about,
etc., trying to obtain donations to non-profit organizations?

The organization in question, the UC San Diego Soaring Club,
is "special interest", but provides a valuable public
service by supplying a constant stream of qualified pilots.
The aerospace industry, as well as the military (no flames, please)
benefit directly from our activities, and the general public
benefits indirectly. We are also instrumental in preserving the
historic Torrey Pines (Calif.) soaring site as an active soaring
location. (It is one of our two soaring locations.)
(Any company associated with general aviation also benefits.)

At present, we are not technically non-profit (a relic of the
way we were incorporated 20 years ago), but we haven't made a
penny in that 20 years. Does anyone have any experience with
converting a _de facto_ non-profit organization into a _de jure_
non-profit org.?

Although we can (and will!) survive on our own, rising aviation costs
(e.g. insurance) have made things more difficult than ever.
Equipment donations (any aerospace company executives listening?)
would be just as useful as monetary donations. (e-mail me for
a description of our current equipment.)

I'm willing to pursue even fairly remote possibilities.
The budget necessary to keep our organization productive
is a pittance in corporate terms.
