1) Bernie Roehl sounds like a hot prospect for a 6809. It's a great processor for 16-bits and high-level and combines the best features of the 6800 AND 6502. However, most instructions take twice as many cycels as they should (by 6502 standards). The 6502 is certainly the FASTEST 8-bitter around (for simple tasks). What I want to know is: WHY ISN'T THERE A 65000 (or whatever) descendant of the great 6502 by now? We have 8086, z8000, and the 6800 that was so well killed-off by the 6502 spawned 6809 and 68000. A 16/32-bit version of the 6502 would have been great for real-time music synthesis, at least. Was Commode-Or too busy making PETs to do anything with their great little chip? Too bad the hardware designers of MOS Tech's original 6502 didn't go back to Motorola to do the 6809 properly... mike k
