[net.micro.atari] atari modem

I saw an Atari product brochure just the other day when I was
also searching for a modem. There is a new model, the 1010 I think, that
is direct connect, 300/1200 baud rate and is supposed to be available
this fall.

According to all the sales literature I have seen (and first hand look at
new products at Consumer Electronics Show in June), the new Atari 1030
direct connect modem does not need any interface unit. It plugs directly
into your telephone jack and your serial jack on the Atari computers. In
fact, it is nearly the same (except for looks) as the present 835 direct
connect modem. The big difference is that the 1030 has built-in
modemlink telecommunications software. It is also compatible with their
Telelink I and II. Although it was designed to be compatible with the
600XL and 800XL, I am certain it will also work with the 400 and 800
computers. The 1400XL and 1450XLD have built-in modems, so they aren't
needed there. I don't know what the price will be, but I know the 835
isn't cheap because it is sold in a package (Communicator II) with the
telelink II cartridge.

Hope this helps...

P.S. Both the 835 and the 1030 Modems are strictly 300 baud units.
