Has anybody used Rana's new SmartDos operating system? The stores
here have just received them (in limited quantities, apparently).
I've glanced through the manual, which seems quite good (as opposed
to Rana's disappointing Drive manual), and it looks like the OS
is very nice (user friendly, etc, etc, etc, yawn). Looks like
it also comes with some nice utilities (speed checker, sector
copier, and other things people already have). How is the
compatability with Atari Dos, OSA, etc? Rana really has a
nerve...the price tag is 45-50 dollars, whether you have a
Rana drive or not. And apparently the $45 is DEALER's cost.
(If I do buy it, I'll post a review to the net).
Also, I understand that Rana has "upgraded" their newer drives,
and now offers a 1 year warantee (mine, a fairly early model,
has a 90 day warantee. I've had to use it; the drive I have
now works like a charm, but this is my third try). Aside from
the warantee difference, are there any functional or cosmetic
differences?
Layoffs be damned, Atari's still
the best machine around!!!!!!!!!
