[Greetings from your Selective Service Board ....] Yesterday an AP article about Jack Tramiel and Atari appeared in the paper which stated that the list price of the 800XL will be reduced to $120! If the WSJ is correct (posting courtesy of Kit Kimes) that leaves a $15 margin to retailers. (Even so, like wow, man. :-) There were also some really great quotes from Tramiel: "Business is war." (My favorite.) "I came back in business in May because I felt that this business was becoming very dull. Everybody was sitting and trying to get as much money as they could. There was no reduction in prices and no improvement in technology." "Anybody who sells computers is a competitor." Tramiel confirmed that Atari will announce an 8 and 16 bit computer in the first quarter of 1985. (Note that "computer" is singular -- a 65816 based machine maybe?) A 32 bit machine will be announced in second quarter 1985. Both will sell under $1000.
