I am trying to use an 800XL as a terminal using the APX program "Chameleon" and an R: handler from AID ("R-verter") to communicate through a Rixon 212 modem. The software commmunicates perfectly with the Rixon, dials the Unix system I work on, but when I establish contact with the remote system I no longer get CR with LF and the screen switches back and forth between normal and reverse video. In addition, all control characters print rather than execute. Does anyone have experience with the "chameleon" terminal emulation package? Do I have to buy an Atari 850 interface to make it work. (Will it work if I get one). Does anyone have an alternative terminal emulation package for this combination? Thanks Kim Wallen Psychology Dept. I've used Chameleon before, but with an 800 (sans XL) and 850 box.
It worked exactly as advertised, right out of the proverbial box.
There were one or two things I didn't like about it, though, so
I uploaded the source to UNIX, changed it to my liking, and ran
it through our cross-assembler. My main gripe was the silly
BASIC preamble. I replaced it with an assembler routine.
Perhaps I have an older version, though. I didn't keep up with
whether or not he put out another version when he went to work
for Atari (boy I'll bet he was pissed at getting laid off).
When you say:
> In addition, all control characters print rather than execute.
That doesn't sound like any Chameleon I had. Mine (the original,
not my modified version), passes all characters through and uses
the OPTION, SELECT, and START keys for the functions it provides.
