I have no complaint with puzzles, my kids have a bunch of them.  But I don't
think they're any better social tools than the computer.  My six year old
daughter plays with our computer with her 3 year old brother and with her
best friend and when she goes to her friend's house she plays with their
Mac (which, sadly, she much prefers to our PC).  They squeeze into the
same chair and give each other advice and help each other do things.  It's
one of a relatively few things she will do directly with her brother, at
the moment.
