[net.micro.atari] Do they exist?

jdi@ucbvax.ARPA (John D. Irwin) (03/01/85)

Anyone seen one of the new machines? (Especially 16 bit)

I call all the places I can find in trade magazines and always am told
"Well, they should arrive next week sometime", or
   "Must be Atari's fault", or
   "What's an Atari?". :-)

I know you can buy one for software devopment ($3000 or something like that)
but if as Tramiel says they've been producing the 65XE for a month or so
now there should be some Somewhere!

Atari said they would wait until they cleared out the old
inventory of 800XL's. This may be a while because when I visited
toys r us in early january and just recently there were still a
lot of stickers for the 800XL's. It looks like sales have sort
of dropped off somewhat. It is not only atari that is down but
the c64 as well. The 16 bit computers are not supposed to ship
until April at least. One thing I noticed is that the amount of
software displayed for the c64 was about 5 times greater than
that for the atari. The disturbing thing about this was that a
lot of the titles for the c64 were originally written for the
atari. Even though I am a c64 owner, I sort of wonder whether
toys r us is pushing commodore stuff intentionally.
