[net.micro.atari] Question: using two simultaneous displays

leigh@cache.DEC (Allen Leigh @SHR1-3/E29 DTN 237-3255) (04/18/85)

I have the older Atari 800. I would like to use a green screen monitor
on the monitor port for text work and a small TV on the RF modulator
for games/graphics. At times both displays might be on together.

Will I have any loading or other problems in doing this?

there should be no problem with anything hooking up both monitors
at once. The hardware does not know whether you have one or two
monitors attached.

Using two simultaneous displays may load your video driver too much, and cause
circuitry to burn. It is therefore not a good idea to run two monitors
simultaneously, unless you can convince yourself that the maximum current
consumed by the monitors is less than the maximum current rating for video
output. The sum of the current maxima for each monitor should do nicely.

Note that we're not talking about information loss here, just potential
electrical difficulties/damage.

re:using two monitors.
Again, there is no problem using two monitors. Having done time in
a number of computer stores where the 800 was sold, we frequently hooked
up two monitors, either one through the rf modulator and the second through
the monitor jack, or splitting off the monitor cable. I suppose that the
problem described in the previous response is theoretically possible, but so is armaggedon.
